About Us

The brick-and-mortar shop know as "This Old Book" is located in the village of Grayslake in northeastern Illinois.   We first opened our doors in June of 2003, though owner Dick Navarre has been buying and selling books online for more than five years.  The growing accessibility and power of the Internet are what prompted us to create this online version of our shop; we will strive to serve as a resource for readers anywhere in the world.  Our business is books, items related to literature, historical ephemera and the sourcing of literary collectibles for our customers.

Dick Navarre is the primary "book guy" with twenty-plus years of experience in the books and collectibles market. He is a retired hospital administrator fulfilling his life-long dream of operating a quality bookstore of his own.  This Old Book is the realization of that dream.
